Capsule spherical, 4-5 cm, nodding, densely glandular-pubescent, covered with spines to 10 mm, persistent part of calyx 1,5-2 mm. Fl. 5-10. Naturalized. Hedges, ditches, ruins, beaches, nr s.l.
Native to C. America. Naturalized in Mediterranean area. Afghanistan, Pakistan, N. America and tropics.
