Shrub, 1-2 m. Branches whitish to greyish, rigid to arching, spines stout. Leaves elliptic to oblanceolate or spathulate, 1-6 x 0,2-1,3 cm, attenuate into petiole 1/3 -1/6 x lamina. Clusters 1-5-flowered. Peduncles 5-12 mm. Calyx 2-3 mm. Corolla 7-10 mm, lobes 3,5 mm, ciliate. Filaments and corolla throat glabrous. Berry red, ovoid, 3-6 mm. Fl. 5-11. Rocky places, riversides, edges of fields, hedges, 160-1150 m.
