Perennial. Roots numerous, slender. Flowering stems 70-120 cm , ± erect, 4-15 mm diam., leafy in lower half; leafless part cylindrical, smooth. Leaves glaucous, linear, tapering towards the apex, dilated with broad scarious margins at base; margins ± scabrid, Inflorescence simple or ±-branched, 35-60 cm long, laxly flowered. Bracts scarious, 15-25 mm, lanceolate, long-acuminate. Bracteoles scarious. Flowers in groups on each node. Fruiting pedicels 15-20 mm, jointed above, at or below the middle. Perianth segments 15-20 mm, concolorous, white or rarely the outside of the outer segments pale pinkish . Stamens unequal; exterior 3 filaments appendiculate. Capsule angular, 3-horned at apex, 7-8 x 7-9 mm. Seeds 4-5, c.3 x c.3 mm. Fl. 6-7. Rocky slopes, clearings in Pinus forest, 1250-1550 m.
