Plant 20-40 cm. Leaves submerged or aerial. Submerged leaves linear, 1-8 mm broad. Aerial leaves with 2-25 cm petiole; lamina 3-12 x 0.7-3 cm, narrowly oblong-elliptic to elliptic, ± obtuse at apex, attenuate at base or gradually tapering into petiole. Inflorescence aerial, often with relatively thicker pedicels and fewer flowers in primary whorls than other species. Sepals rounded, 2-3 mm. Petals pink to white, 2.5-3.5 mm, obtuse. Anthers 0.5-0.7 mm, subglobose. Styles c. 0.5 mm, recurved, stigmatose in upper 1/4-1/2. Achenes 1.8-2.5 mm, obovate, with fairly thick lateral pericarp. Fl. 6-9. Lakes,ditches, marshes, usually in water, c. 50-2350 m.
