Erect or decumbent annual, 10-50 cm. Leaves 2-5 x 1-2 cm, elongate-obovate or spathulate, gradually attenuate into the petiole, rounded or weakly emarginate at the apex, with finely crinkled margins. Flowers in short pseudo-spikes with spathulate, bristle-tipped bracteoles. Perianth segments of the female flowers 3, linear-elliptic, obtuse, shortly acuminate or some acuminate-mucronate. Fruit ± 1,5 mm, somewhat wrinkled or warty, dehiscent. PI. 6-7. Waste places, street edges, cultivated land, sand dunes, s.I.-1000 m.
Southern parts of N. & C. America; recently widespread all over the world.
