Usually decumbent perennial, up to 90 cm. Leaves 3-5 x 1,5-2,5 cm, rhombic-ovate, obtuse or weakly emarginate at the base, finely mucronate, margin crinkled. Inflorescence dense, spicate-paniculate; flowers pale green or reddish brown. Bracteoles ovate, broad at the base, acuminate, small. Perianth segments of the female flowers 2-3, linear to elongate-spathulate, blunt, shortly acuminate. Fruit 2,5-3 mm, elongate-ovate, inflated. Fl. 5-7. Roadsides, waste places, cultivated land.
Introduced from S. America and naturalised in many parts of the world.
