Branched annual, 20-150 cm, the young shoots ± woolly. Leaves lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, flat, glabrous or with scattered hairs above; more densely hairy beneath, ciliate. Pseudo-spikes elongate; flowers solitary pr in pairs, with a sparse to dense rim of long hairs. Perianth appendage triangular, tongue-shaped or ovate-rhomboid, usually absent in male-flowers. Style short, stigmas filiform, long. FI. 6-8. As a weed in cultivated land & in waste places, s.l.-1200 m.
