Annual or biennial herb exceeding 1 m, branched from the base. Basal leaves long-wedge-shaped; stem leaves broadly rhombic-spathulate, the lower long-petiolate, the median sessile and bearing flower clusters in their axils, the upper forming narrowly obovate bracts. Flowers in groups of 2-many. Perianth segments triangular-oblong from a broad base, strongly keeled , basal outgrowths not as prominent as in B. trojana, spongy. Stigmas 3, broadly rhombic-ovate. Fl. 6-7. Steppe.
