Slender, glabrous or slightly hairy perennial herb up to 1 m or more. Inflorescence a large, long-branched, lax, terminal panicle. Flowers solitary, 2-3 mm, with linear-lanceolate bracts. Perianth segments green, with broad, membranous, fimbriate margins in the upper parts, strongly keeled, directed forwards like a tube in fruit; the lower, united part of the perianth 5-angled. Fl. 5-7. Cultivated fields, steppe, roadsides, 800-1300 m.
