Erect or decumbent annual, up to 1 m, nearly glabrous, usually red-tinged. Leaves 8 x 3 cm, ovate or elliptic, entire or with a single tooth on each side in the lower part, obtuse or subacute, thin. Inflorescence divaricate, forming an elongate apical spike, or short axillary cymes. Perianth segments rounded on the back. Seed with close, radially elongate pits with sinuous margins, not enclosed in the perianth. Fl. 5-8. Waste places and cultivated ground, s.l.
