Many-stemmed perennial, very woody at the base, with spreading branches up to 25 cm. Leaves 4-6 mm, opposite, united into a sheath at the base, crisply hairy, subulate to triangular in section, narrowly membranous-margined, rigid and recurved. Bracts and bracteoles similar to the leaves but shorter. Perianth shorter than the bracteoles, with 5 membranous segments, sometimes ciliate above, with a brown stripe down the middle of each segment, winged . Stamens 5. Anthers elongate-cordate, the connective without an appendage. Staminodes broad, rounded, crisply ciliate. Style conical with 2 filiform stigmas. Seed erect. Monotypic.
