Glabrous, dirty blue-green herb. Leaves ovate, broadly membranous-margined at the base, linear-lingulate above, semicircular, 2-4 cm, somewhat fleshy, terminating in a short bristle. Bracteoles shortly acuminate from an ovate base, keeled on the back, not much longer, or shorter,than the perianth. Pseudospike mostly few-flowered. Flowers single or in pairs in the leaf axils. Perianth striped, sessile and up to 7 mm broad at the base in old flowers; segments ovate, membranous, in fruit cartilaginous-hardened, dentate-fimbriate at the apex, transversely keeled or warty on the back in the upper part. Fruit up to 5 mm broad, erect or oblique. Fl. 5-7. On salty soils nr. s.l.
