Upright, branched annual, up to 30 cm, usually roughly hairy, rarely almost glabrous. Leaves linear, semicylindrical, fleshy. Axis of the pseudo-spike hairy, flexuous. Flowers solitary in the axils. Perianth almost spherical, the segments 5 or rarely 3, triangular, some of them with a brown tubercle or blunt spine on the back. Stamens 5. Styles 2-3, filiform. Seeds horizontal, clearly rostrate.
