Bulb oblong-ovoid, 2-2.5 cm diam.; outer tunics reticulate-fibrous, produced into a long neck. Stem 60-150 cm. Leaves 3-4, fistulose, 3-11 mm broad, cylindrical, rapidly narrowing towards apex. Spathe 2-valved, soon caducous; valves ± equalling umbel, beaked. Umbel globose, 2-4.5 cm diam., many-flowered, dense. Pedicels 2-5 x perianth, bracteolate. Perianth ovoid-campanulate; segments dark purple, brownish-green, yellowish-green or green, often narrowly white-margined, 2.5-3.5 mm, outer ones concave, broadly elliptic, obtuse and rounded at apex or emarginate, shorter than elliptic-obovate, emarginate inner ones. Filaments longer than perianth segments, glabrous or ciliate at base; outer simple or sometimes with 1-2 teeth on both sides; inner 3-5-cuspidate; median cusp of inner filaments somewhat shorter or half as long as lateral cusps. Anthers yellow or violet. Capsule c. 3.5 mm. Fl. 6-7. Montane steppe, saline places, volcanic craters, rocky slopes in Pinus halepensis and P. nigra subsp. pallasiana forest, 100-3050 m.
