Bulb ovoid, 2.5-3 cm diam.; outer tunics membranous. Stem 60-100 cm, thick. Leaves 3-6, broadly lanceolate, 30-80 mm broad, flat, acute. Spathe persistent, 2-4-lobed; lobes to 3 cm, narrowly triangular, acuminate. Umbel hemispherical or fastigiate, 5-10 cm diam., many-flowered. Pedicels 2.5-4.5 cm. Perianth stellate at anthesis, later limp or reflexed; segments white,-pale lilac, pale pink or mauvish-pink with a greenish midvein, oblong-ovate, 6-9 mm, obtuse. Filaments white or pale lilac, c. 1/2-3/4 x perianth, abruptly narrowing. Ovary dark green or dark purple. Capsule globose, 6-8 mm. 2n = 16. Fl. 4-5. Fields, rocky slopes, grassy places, sandy soil near sea, s.l.-950 m.
