Bulb subglobose, 1-2 cm diam.; outer tunics membranous, greyish; bulblets sometimes purplish. Stem 30-100 cm. Leaves 2-5, 2-5 mm broad, hollow, terete, sheathing lower half of stem. Spathe 1-1.5 cm, persistent, split into several lobes or caducous. Umbel globose to ellipsoid, 2-4 cm diam. Pedicels 2-3 x perianth, sometimes bracteolate at base and minutely tuberculate in upper part. Perianth subcoriaceous, umbilicate at base, tubular to oblong-ovoid; segments pale green, purple-red or purple at apex or all over, 4-5 mm, outer oblong-elliptic, obtuse, cymbiform, inner ovate, subacute. Filaments somewhat exserted; median cusp of inner filaments shorter and somewhat thicker than longer, thinner lateral cusps; basal part of filament ciliolate, c. as long as cusps. Anthers 2.2 mm, oblong, yellowish or purplish-brown, exserted. Ovary oblong; style red, long-exserted. Capsule 4 mm, overtopped by persistent perianth.
