Bulb ovoid or subglobose, c. 1.5 cm diam., with numerous bulblets; outer tunics crustaceous, minutely pitted. Stem 10-65 cm. Leaves 2-4, broadly linear, 2-14mm broad, long-acuminate, finely denticulate at margin. Spathe 1-valved, deeply 3-4-lobed, shorter than pedicels, persistent. Umbel fastigiate or hemispherical, to 6 cm diam., with or without bulbils. Pedicels 7-45 mm. Perianth campanulate; segments usually pink, sometimes white, elliptic-oblong, 7-12 mm, obtuse, often denticulate at apex. Filaments 2/3 x perianth segments. Capsule 4 mm. 2n = 40. Fl. 4-5. Macchie, limestone scree and rocky places under Pinus and Abies, littoral meadows, marshy places, shady banks, cultivated ground, s.l.-2000 m.
