Bulb 30-40 x 20-30 mm. Leaves 8-50 cm x 5-15 mm, flat, glaucous. Scape 12-50 cm. Spathe 20-40 mm, scarious. Flowers solitary , horizontal, nodding or suberect, concolorous or bicoloured. Pedicel 3-4 mm. Hypanthial tube 10-15 mm, broadly obconical. Perianth segments pale to deep yellow , 18-40 x 9-15 mm, patent or erecto-patent. Corona trumpet-shaped, 20-30 mm, single or double, margin usually subentire. Stamens ± equal, anthers sub-basifixed, exserted from hypanthial tube but ± concealed within corona. Fl. 3-5 Naturalised in Carpinus forest; also cultivated.
Native to W. Europe N. to England; widely cultivated and sometimes naturalised.
