Erect, robust perennial, 40-150 cm, glabrous, softly pilose or hispid with ± tuberous roots. Stems striate to deeply sulcate, usually glabrous . Leaves broadly ovate-triangular, 20-55 x 10-30 cm, 3-4-pinnate, segments ovate, triangular or ± lanceolate, 0.7-5 x 0.4-2 cm, deeply or shallowly lobed, lobes obtuse or acute. Inflorescence ± cymose. Rays 5-22, equal or not, 2.5-4 cm. Bracts 0. Bracteoles 5, 2-6 mm. Pedicels up to 17, equal or not, asperous above, 4-6 mm. Fruit 2-15 per umbellule, ovate-oblong, covered with antrorse tuberculate bristles, 6-10 x 2-3 mm. Fl. 4-8. Coniferous and deciduous forests, rocky slopes, water meadows, 500-3200 m.
