Annual, 5-50 cm, usually 10-20 cm, habit rather variable but usually branching from the base. Leaves 2-7 cm long, 1-2 mm broad, ± linear. Rays 3-6, very unequal, 1-20 mm, longest one ½ to equal to the peduncle. Bracts 3-4, ½ or less as long as longest ray, 3-7 mm. Bracteoles 5, elliptic to ovate, concave, 3-veined without veinlets, semi-transparent, non-herbaceous, entire or very finely serrulate, with a whitish brilliance at flowering, 5-8 mm. Petals yellow, 0,5-0,6 mm, entire and evenly rounded apically, inflexed lobe narrow, bifid. Anthers 0,25 mm. Stylopodium 0,5-0,6 mm broad, styles 0,2-0,3 mm. Fruit 1,3-1,8 mm, smooth, ridges filiform. Fl. 4-5. Phrygana and other dry, open natural habitats on calcareous soils, s.l.-1000 m.
