Robust, branched biennial or perennial with occasionally mottled terete finely ridged stems, usually coarsely hispid below, ± glabrous above, 90-200 cm. Lower leaves ovate-triangular, puberulous, up to 50 x 20 cm, 3-4-pinnate, ultimate segments ovate, 6-25 x 3-10 mm, crenate to pinnatifid with ± oblong to lanceolate lobes. Uppermost leaves much reduced with filiform segments, petioles broadly winged. Rays 6-13, ± equal, ± erect, 10-20 mm. Bracts 0-1. Bracteoles 5-9, ovate acuminate, 1-2 mm. Pedicels 10-20, outer capillary, 1-5 mm. Umbellule 1-fruited . Fruit linear oblong, 15-20 x 2 mm. Fl. 7-8. Dry valleys, rocks, wet meadows, fieldsides, 1260-2900 m.
