Annual. Stems ± erect, branched, 5-30 cm, retrorsely scabrid, rarely hispid near the base. Leaves 2-pinnate with narrow-oblong entire or pinnatifid segments. Rays 5-8. Bracts pinnatifid with narrowly obovate segments, shorter than to as long as the flowers. Central flowers of the umbel often sterile and reduced. Petals white or pinkish, small. Fruit little compressed, with hair-like spines on the primary ridges, and longer, stout, patent spines, whose bases are broadened and confluent at the base, forming conspicuous wings, on the secondary ridges. Fl. 6-8. Maritime sands, fields, vineyards.
