Stems branched, ascending-erect, glabrous, 8-30 cm. Leaves 2-pinnate, the ultimate segments deeply pinnatisect with narrow lobes; petiole and rachis spreading pilose, lamina ± crisply or spreading pilose above and beneath. Rays glabrous, 2-4. Bracts ciliate, otherwise glabrous. Bracteoles with conspicuous scarious margins. Outer petals 5-7 mm, radiant. Fruit 10-11 x4-5 mm, primary ridges with short adpressed, crisped, spine-like hairs in 2 rows; secondary ridges with 1 rows of longer patent or recurved spines. Fl. 4-6. Forests, scrub, slopes, fields, etc., s.l.-1000 m.
