Biennial; stem erect, 40-70 cm, slender, striate, glabrous; tap root fusiform. Basal leaves 1-4-ternate-pinnate, with petiole 10-20 cm, broadly triangular in outline; ultimate segments ovate-rhomboid to elliptic, 0,4-1,5 x 0,3-1,1 cm, deeply serrate above, sometimes ternately lobed. Upper stem leaves reduced to a vaginate base. Umbels 9-15-rayed; umbellules 10-20-flowered; bracts usually absent, rarely up to 3, linear; bracteoles 1-5, linear. Mericarps ovoid, 1,8 x 0,8 mm, ridges obscure. Fl. 4-6.Thickets, rocky places and on ruins, often nr. the sea, s.l.-800 m.
