Stem twining, to 2 m, simple, glabrous below, puberulent above. Terminal internodes elongate. Leaves to 12 x 69 cm, ovate to lanceolate, apex acute to long-acuminate especially in upper part of stem, base rounded or ± cordate, glabrous or minutely puberuIent on nerves and margins, rather thin, upper surface distinctly darker than lower; petioles to 15 mm. Cymes 6-10-flowered, lax; peduncle to 5 cm. Pedicels thin, 2-3 x length of flowers. Calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate, puberulent. Corolla blackish-purple, 4-8 mm diam.; lobes oblong, upper surface distinctly white-pilose. Follicles to 8 cm x 8 mm, long-acuminate, glabrous. Fl. 5-9. Scrub and montane forests, 50-1700 m.
