Perennial herb. Rootstock elongated, cylindrical. Stems up to 35 cm, erect to decumbent, simple or branched, hirsute. Leaves downy on both sides, oblong-lanceolate, 4-8 x 1.4-3.8 cm, acute or obtuse, mucronate, widely cordate at base; auricules 0.4-1.2 x 0.5-1.3 cm, scarcely diverging; petioles 0.2-0.5 cm long, pubescent. Flowers axillary, solitary. Peduncles 3-11.5 cm, longer than petioles, minutely pubescent. Perigone large, 6-12 cm long, greenish brown to violet brown, more intense within, downy on outside; utricle 1-1.5 x 1-1.5 cm, subglobose; tube U-shaped 0.5-0.8 cm broad at base, gradually dilating to 1-1.2 cm above, 3-11 cm long, downy outside, multicellular hispid with white hairs inside; limb 4-5 x 2.5-3 cm, ovate-triangular, nat, slightly recurved, with revolute margin, acute or retuse, base with short auricles or exauriculate, hispid with multicellular white hairs inside and purplish with yellowish mottling. Ovary nodding to drooping on peduncle, 0.8x0.3-0.4 cm, clavate. densely crispate-pubescent, Fl. 4-5. Dry, open to shady places among calcareous stones, edge of fields: 1000-1350 m.
Endemic. Medit. element. Allied to A. cilicica. Among the European and Turkish species of Aristolochia, A. Baseri is unusual on account of the revolute rim of the perianth limb.
