Rootstock unknown. Stems 15-20 cm, ± erect, simple or slightly branched, crisply puberulous. Leaves subtriangular, 1.5-3 x 2-3.5 cm, margin sparsely cartilaginous-denticulate, often ciliolate, inflexed in middle, acutish, mucronulate, base deeply cordate, auricles 5-10 x 7-10 mm, rounded, incurved; petiole 2-5 mm, Peduncles as long as petioles. Perianth 3-4 cm long, dark purplish to dark maroon outside; utricle 5-7 x 3-5 mm, ovate-oblong; tube U-curved, c. 2 mm broad at base, gradually dilated above to 3-4 mm, patently puberulous outside, glabrous inside; limb 1-1.5 x 1.3-1.5 cm, broadly ovate, acutish, auricles rounded, puberulous outside, hirsute inside with short pale hairs, freckled with white at throat. Ovary obovoid, densely puberulous. Capsule unknown. Fl. 4. Deciduous Quercus forests, on limestone, c. 700 m.
Endemic.E. Medit. element. Related to A. lycica and A. auricularia, and growing with the latter at the type locality.
