Erect to ascending glabrous herb. Stem 0.25-1.5 m, straight or flexuous, sulcate and often angled below. Branches divaricate to patent or even deflexed . Spur 0-4 mm. Cladodes 2-5 per fascicle, linear-subulate, subterete or grooved, unequal, 10-45 x 0.3-0.7 mm, ascending, erectopatent or divergent, glabrous, green , nearly straight or incurved, acute. Flowers 1-2 per fascicle or branch axil. Pedicels 10-22 mm, articulate at or above the middle. Male perianth 6-7 mm, yellowish-green, brownish towards base. Anthers 1.2-1.5 mm. Berry red, 6-8 mm;seeds usually 1. FL 5-7. Scrub by streams, in gorges, moist pastures, igneous screes, salt steppe, 800-1700 m.
