Leaves 3-4, nearly as long as scape, outer one to 2-3.5 cm broad, margin smooth or scabrid, falcately recurved, often blackish when pressed. Scape 50-60 cm, solitary. Raceme conical, 20-45-flowered, lax. Pedicels erect at first, then recurved, lower ones 4-9 cm. Flower buds purplish. Perianth dirty purple with paler lobes, becoming livid, nodding, 9-13 mm, campanulate, lobes c. as long as tube. Fruiting raceme conical; pedicels somewhat deflexed, lower ones 9-15 cm, thickish. Valves of capsule 17-23 mm, ovate-oblong, retuse at apex. Fl. 4. Fields, c. 1050 m.
