Leaves 2, first one 5-15 mm broad, second more than half as broad, sometimes with hairs on lamina, margin long-ciliate to ciliolate-scabrid, base of leaves and scape often tinged or spotted purplish. Scape 6.5-14 cm at anthesis, to 20 cm in fruit. Raceme 6-25-flowered, rather lax. Pedicels 2-6 mm at anthesis, ascending, to 4-12 mm in fruit. Perianth rather deep blue to violet-blue, 4.5-5.5 mm, tubular-campanulate; lobes c. half as long as tube, broadly ovate, subacute to subobtuse, submucronate, often somewhat incurved. 2n = 16. Fl. 3-5. Quercus coccifera scrub, under Pinus nigra, bare overgrazed slopes with sandy loam and stones, 400-1500 m.
