Usually taller, more robust and longer leaved than M. muscarimi, but differing mainly in flower size and colour. Fertile flowers 10-12 mm, dusky violet in bud, flavous at anthesis, corona and terminal lobes brownish, tube on drying not developing a whitish band below corona of 6 rounded, dorsally compressed lobes; flowers smelling of ripe bananas. Capsule deciduous as in M. muscarimi but to 25 x 36 mm when pressed, ripe valves strongly compressed and undulate. Seeds 3 mm diam. 2n = 18. Fl. 2-4. Rocky macchie and on serpentine and limestone slopes near the sea, 1000 m.
