Bulb to 5 cm diam., tunics fuscous. Leaves 4-8, 13-46 cm x 15-30 mm, linear-oblong, narrowed at base and apex, shortly ciliate. Scape solitary, robust, 49-110 cm. Raceme subcylindrical, 20-45 cm, 60-110-flowered; pedicels 2-3.5 cm, patent to ascending. Bracts 0.5-1 mm, broadly ovate, crescent-shaped, often toothed. Perianth segments violet-blue with pale or white margins, 5-7 x 1.5-2.5 mm, opening stellate at anthesis, later becoming suberect. Filaments c. 1 mm broad at base. Ovary subglobose, c. 2-3 mm diam. Style 1.5-4 mm. Seeds subglobose, c. 3 mm diam., black, exarillate. 2n = 20. FL 4-5. Water meadows, grassy slopes, limestone hills, s.l.-500 m.
