Plant 20-60cm; stem usually branched from near base. Leaves subglabrous; lower petiolate, undivided and dentate or lyrate, median pinnatilobed or pinnatifid, lateral segments linear-lanceolate, often minutely denticulate. Capitula on long ± leafless peduncles. Involucre 15-18 x 13-16 mm; phyllaries broad, ronded, green , sparingly hairy; outer with very narrow scarious margins, inner with oblong brownish scarious appendages. Marginal flowers strongly radiant with numerous short laciniae. Achenes 3,5-4 mm; pappus of the same length, rarely absent. Fl. 5-7. Dry slopes, 1000-1650 m.
