Perennial, 30-80 cm, sparsely pubescent, usually branched at least above. Leaves ovate-elliptic, or lanceolate; lower ones 10-15 x 2,5-5 cm, attenuate, subpetiolate at base, acute or acuminate at apex, margins obscurely dentate and denticulate, pubescent on both surfaces especially on veins; upper leaves on flowering shoots numerous, narrower, 4-8 x 0,5-2 cm. Capitula sessile or on short peduncles, forming leafy racemes. Involucre c. 5 x 5 mm; outer phyllaries ovate, 2-3 mm, herbaceous at tip, pubescent at least at margins, inner ones oblong, 5 mm, obtuse. Flowers 2 mm. Achenes 3 mm, glandular at base and on beak. Fl. 8-10. Roadsides, waste ground, Castanea woods and mountain valleys, s.l.-915 m.
