Deep-rooting perennial with short stem cm excluding capitulum), stem simple or with few branches nearly as long as main axis. Leaves densely covered with short hairs, sometimes sparsely arachnoid; very variable in outline, mostly lyrate with triangular or lanceolate terminal segment and 1-3 lanceolate to lyrate segments or leaves entire, lanceolate. Involucre 18-22 x 13-16 mm, ovoid. Appendage a narrow, entire membranous decurrent border ending in a 1-4 mm spinule. Flowers pink , marginal scarcely radiant. Achenes 4,5-5 mm, densely hairy ; pappus 11-13 mm, barbellate to plumose, easily deciduous, inner row 1-2 mm, scaly. Fl. 4-6. Sandy littoral plains.
