Perennial, stems erect, 40-75 cm, branched in upper part, capitula in small clusters of 3-5, congested at end of branches. Lower and median leaves lyrate with large lanceolate terminal segment and 2-5 pairs of narrowly lanceolate lateral segments, rarely lower undivided; upper simple, lanceolate to oblanceolate, sometimes with a pair of lobes near base. Involucre 10-13x 3.5-5 mm. Nearly cylindrical. Appendages rather small, with spreading tip, brown, with 5-8 cilia on each side ending in a c. 0.5 mm mucro. Flowers purple, marginal not radiant. Achenes 2.8-3mm, pappus 2.5-3.5 mm. Fl 7-8, dry rocky slopes, forests, 700-1800 m.
