Biennial, 60-300 cm, erect, grey-tomentose, with numerous capitula arranged in an elongated spike-like inflorescence with winged axis. Lower leaves lyrate with very large oblong terminal segment and few ± retrorse lateral segments or lobes; median smaller, lanceolate, repand-dentate or entire, decurrent with broad wings; upper linear-lanceolate, decurrent. Capitula nearly sessile and single or 3-4 together on short peduncles along axis. Involucre 19-23 x 10-15 mm, cup-shaper . Phyllaries coriaceous, densely adpressed, without appendage or with a minute point, 0,5-1 mm, deciduous. Flowers yellow, marginal not radiant. Achenes 4,5-5,5 mm; pappus 5-6 mm. Fl. 6-8. Pinus forests, macchie, field-margins, 200-1100 m.
