Perennial. Stem up to 1 m, simple or with few branches in upper part, ±hirsute, densely foliate, inflated below capitulum. Levaes puberulent above, grey floccose-tomentose below, broadly lanceolate, sessile , upper enveloping capitula. Involucre 20-30 mm broad, hemispherical. Appendages dark brown to almost black, ± arachnoid, recurved or reflexed, narrowly triangular with 6-8 spinules on each side, ending in a 6-9 mm spinule. Flowers yellow. Achenes 6-6,5 mm; pappus 7-8 mm. Fl. 7-8. Subalpine meadows, tall herbaceous vegetation, 1400-2450 m.
Endemic. Euxine element.
