Perennial, stem erect, 40-45 cm, with few capitula. Leaves adpressed grey-tomentose on both sides, those of sterile rosettes undivided, lanceolate, lower stem leaves lyrate with a lanceolate terminal segment and 2-4 pairs of lanceolate lateral segments slightly bent forward, median and upper leaves lanceolate, shortly decurrent, ending in a 2-4 mm spinule. Involucre c. 15 mm broad. Appendages rather large, straw-coloured, triangular, with 5-7 cilia on each side and a terminal 5-6 mm spinule. Flowers, achenes and pappus unknown. Fl. 6-7?
