Biennieal, c. 40 cm. Stem stout, unbranched, unwinged, densely arachnoid. Median cauline leaves oblong, pinnatisect, with well-developed spinose basal auricles, lateral lobes bifid, toothed, c. 8-paired, barrowly triangular, lateral and terminal lobes and teeth with stout 6-13 mm apical spine, spinose-strgiose above, setae 0,3-1 mm, desely arachnoid above and below. Uppermost leaves up to 10, involucrate, longer than involucre. Involucres c. 5, sessile in dense terminal raceme, globose to broadly obovoid, 25-40 mm. Phyllaries densely arachnoid, gradually imbricate, c. 8-seriate; median 21-27 mm, gradually narrowed to weak reflexed to recurved c. 8x2 mm apical spine. Corolas whitish or pinkish, 28-31 mm. Achenes 7,5-8 mm. Pappus c. 20-22 mm. Fl. 8. Limestone, 3000 m.
