Perennial. Stem erect, c. 1 m, glabrous, longitudinally striate, subangular, divided above into few naked 1-headed branches. Leaves somewhat rigid, scabridulous with short hairs except on glabrous margin. Basal leaves bipinnatisect, petiolate, 40 x 12 cm incl. petiole, with c. 5 pairs of segments; lateral segments linear-lanceolate, 6-10 x 1-3 cm, pinnatifid, laxly serrulate-dentate; terminal segment lanceolate, 10 x 3-4 cm, pinnatisect or pinnatilobed; lower and middle cauline leaves similar but smaller, bipinnatisect or pinnatisect, upper ones pinnatisect or pinnatilobed, lanceolate or linear. Involucre glabrous, broadly ovate, 4 x 3 cm, slightly umbilicate at base. Phyllaries multiseriate, subcoriaceous, bright green, conspicuously longitudinally marked with blackish-green lines, outer phyllaries broadly ovate, inner oblong or linear, 5-35 x 5-10 mm, obtuse, margin entire, narrowly scarious. Flowers gold, c. 5 cm, marginal ones scarcely radiant, sterile, ligules filiform; anther tube bright sulphur, subexserted.. Achenes cylindrical, glabrous, 7-8 x 2,5 mm. Pappus double, scabrid; outer pappus multiseriate, to 17 mm, inner c. 1-5 mm. Fl. 6-7. Roadside. c. 30 m.
