Herb 20-40 cm. Radical leaves up to 15 cm , 2-pinnatisect, obovate or oblong in outline; primary segments 4-5-paired, each finely dissected into 3-5 simple or 3-fid, narrowly linear, acuminate lobes 10-20 x 0.5-1 mm, sparsely pilose especially on lower surface; cauline leaves similar, smaller, becoming sessile. Capitula generally 2-4 per stem, on 8-15 cm peduncles. Involucre 0.9-1.2 cm broad; outer phyllaries ovate-lanceolate, inner linear-oblanceolate, 5-7 x 3 mm, margins brownish or black, scarious. Ray flowers c. 12, white or pale sulphur yellow; ligules 9-15 x 5-6 mm, apex generally notched. Disc flowers c. 3 mm. Achenes brown, c. 2 mm, 5-ribbed; corona ± entire, c. 0.2 mm. Fl 5-7. Stony slopes, 1300-3000 m.
