Alkanna tinctoria

Plant 10-30 cm, pubescent, with ± numerous minute eglandular, rarely glandular hairs and ± numerous 1-3 mm spreading or subadpressed setiform  hairs. Leaves greenish, canescent or whitish, linear  to oblong-lanceolate, 1-7 x 0·3-1 cm. Cymes 5-20 cm  in fruit. Bracts linear- to oblong-lanceolate, 0·5-1·5 x 0·1-0·5 cm, not or somewhat longer than calyx. Calyx 4-6 mm  in flower, 7-9 mm in fruit, moderately or densely covered with setiform  hairs, lobes linear-lanceolate. Corolla blue 8-10 mm, glabrous outside, limb 4-10 mm  diam. Nutlets 2-3 mm diam., reticulate-tuberculate or ± smooth with groups of ± confluent warts; beak abruptly strongly deflexed.
