Annual, 15-25 cm, erect, stem branched at base, patent-hairy below, hairs adpressed above. Basal leaves to 4 cm, lanceolate, obtuse; cauline ovate-lanceolate, upper acute. Inflorescence ebracteate, many-flowered, lax below, dense above, pedicels shorter than calyx in fruit. Calyx accrescent to 4.5 mm in fruit, with patent hooked hairs and antrorsely adpressed straight hairs. Corolla to 4 mm, limb c. 1.3 mm diam., saucer-shaped, pale yellow at first, becoming blue; tube to 2 mm, whitish below, dark violet above. Nutlets 1 x 0.7 mm, dark brown, with a wide rim. Fl. 4-5. Dry places, s.l.-100 m.
