Perennial. Stems 1-2, 20-25 cm, erect or ascending, unbranched, adpressed-setose, puberulous, densely leafy below, less so above. Leaves 20-40x5-9 mm, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, acute, yellowish-green above, greyish beneath, patent-setose, puberulous; basal petiolate, cauline sessile. Bracts few, small, linear-lanceolate. Inflorescence of 2-5 lax cymes clustered at stem apex. Pedicels 3-4 mm. Calyx 12 mm in flower, 14 mm in fruit, lobes lanceolate, sometimes connate at base, base accrescent and becoming gibbous, nerves projecting as 5 setose keels. Corolla bright yellow, 14-17 mm, ± cylindrical, puberulous, lobes small, revolute, ciliate. Anthers exserted for 2-3 mm. Nutlets 2-5-3 mm, broadly ovate, with distinct laterally compressed beak, greyish, smooth to slightly rugulose. Fl 5-7. Pinus,forest, Quercus scrub, steppe, rocky limestone slopes, fallow fields, 350-2150 m.
