Perennial. Stems 25-40 cm, erect or ascending, simple or sparingly branched, rigid, brownish or blackish, densely patent-setose and very shortly· hairy. Leaves patent-setose and minutely papillose, setae arising from large tubercles; basal and lower cauline 20-50 x 5-15 mm, oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, obtuse to subacute, lowermost shortly petiolate; upper cauline to 30 x 10 mm, obovate, obtuse. Inflorescence of 1-3 terminal cymes, elongating to 15 cm after flowering. Bracts lanceolate to narrowly linear. Pedicels 3-5 mm in flower, to 10 mm in fruit. Calyx 9-12 mm in flower, to 15 mm in fruit, lobes linear-lanceolate, densely patent-setose. Corolla yellow at first, becoming reddish-tinged, 13-15 mm, cylindrical-campanulate, glabrous. Anthers sagittate, included. Nutlets 4 x 2.5 mm, ovoid, acuminate, keeled, marbled. Fl. 5-6. Limestone rocks, Pinus brutia forest, macchie, stream-beds, 470-1000 m.
