Rhizome tuberous, blackish, far-creeping. Stem 28-40 cm, erect, few branched, sparsely retrorse-hispid. Leaves sparsely hispid; basal with 10-25 cm petiole and ovate-cordate, acuminate lamina to 20 x 18 cm; cauline panduriform, sessile, amplexicaul. Bracts elliptic-lanceolate to oblanceolate, sessile, acute. Calyx 3-4 mm in flower, to 7 mm in fruit, lobes triangular, obtuse, hispid. Corolla purplish-blue, tube 4-6 mm, lobes 6-8 mm; upper scales white, very short, blunt, emarginate. Anthers and style long-exserted. Nutlets obliquely ovoid, keeled, rugose-reticulate. FI. 3-5. Fagus forest, shady riverbanks, moist ravines, 50-1000 m.
