Annual, c. 10-15 cm, usually much branched. Basal leaves oblong or broadly ovate, petiolate. Cauline leaves similar, acute, cordate, amplexicaul. Petals 2-3 x 0.5-1 mm, white or pink. Filaments of longer stamens loosely connate most of their length, curved, toothed; stamens apiculate. Inflorescence compact in flower and fruit, rarely heterocarpic. Fruiting pedicels ± erect, 2-5 mm. Fruit broadly ovate, 6-12 x 6-12 mm; septum 4-6 x 1-1.5 mm; wings 2-3 mm; sinus 2-4 mm; style very short, less than 1 mm, fragile. Seeds 3-4 papillose, mucilaginous. Small fruits smooth, their seeds not mucilaginous. Radicle incumbent or obliquely incumbent. Fl. 4-6. Fields and stony slopes, 600-2700 m.
