Dense cushion-forming perennial, with woody and strongly branched caudices. Fertile stems up to 20 cm. Leaves of sterile shoots spathulate, ashy-canescent, with an indumentum of stellate hairs with long, unequal, sericeous rays . Cauline leaves obovate to oblanceolate, ± deciduous. Petals 2-2.5 mm. Short filaments with free appendages. Fruits broadly obovate or obcordate, 3-4 x 2-3.5 mm, with an indumentum of ± sparse, coarse stellate hairs with divergent and unequal rays. Styles 0.8-1.5 mm. Seeds wingless. Fl. 5-7. Slopes, steppe, open places, 100-2200 m.
