Perennial herb with woody roots. Hairs all stellate. Lower leaves spathulate, sinuate to repand-dentate, canescent; cauline leaves linear-oblanceolate. Inflorescence usually a panicle, frequently corymbose. Sepals 1,5-3,5 mm. Petals pale yellow, slightly emarginate to entire, 4-6 mm. Siliculae flattened, glabrous, ± orbicular. Seeds broadly winged. Three subspecies are recognisable, 2 of which occur in Turkey:
1. Siliculae 7-10 x 8-12 m; petals 6-7 mm ..........subsp megalocarpa
1. Siliculae 4-5 x 4-6 m; petals 3-4 mm .............subsp. orientalis
Subsp. saxatilis is widespread in S. & C. Europe. S. Russia.
